The Thrombosis Committee 

In 2010, the VTE Working Group who had led the implementation work within the Trust was disbanded and a new committee, the Thrombosis Committee was set up in its place.

Tamara Everington MBBS MRCP FRCPath PhD,

Tamara Everington trained at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine graduating in 1993. Following basic postgraduate medical training at Guy’s Hospital, she went on to do haematology specialist training at UCL. Whilst at UCL she undertook research leading to a PhD exploring the molecular pathogenesis of Polycythaemia, a condition which is frequently complicated by VTE. She is now a haematology consultant and Chair of the Thrombosis Committee at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust and has led the programme which resulted in VTE Exemplar status in 2008. In 2009 she worked with the SWSHA supporting the VTE peer review process which led to their Exemplar status. She is an ambassador for Lifeblood.

 

Nicola McQuaid
Lead Anticoagulation Nurse

Nicola McQuaid took over the lead Anticoagulation Nurse position in September 2014. She qualified as a registered nursed  in 1991 and has worked in Salisbury ever since. She has had a series of roles working in medicine and was sister on the cardiology ward before joining the anticoagulation nursing team in 2008.

Nicola has continued to develop and has a Nurse Practitioners degree and is an independent prescriber which is advantageous for working within the nurse led clinics and within the outreach anticoagulation ward service.

Anne Maratty, Anticoagulation Lead Nurse Practitioner

Anne trained at Charing Cross Hospital, London in 1984.  She has worked in a variety of senior nursing roles.   At present she is Lead Anticoagulant Nurse Practitioner and has worked at Salisbury since April 2010.   Prior to this post she was the Anticoagulant Nurse Practitioner at Royal Hampshire County Hospital,Winchester

 Clare Page, Consultant Physician and Director of Medical Education

Claire Page qualified from St. George's Hospital, London in 1993. After working on the south coast for a few years she returned to London to undertake her Registrar training in Geriatrics.

She was appointed as a Consultant at Salisbury in General Medicine and Medicine for Older People in 2003. She runs the Falls Clinic here at the hospital as well as caring for older people with multiple complex needs requiring rehabilitation. Her main interest is education and training of junior doctors and she has been Foundation Programme Director at the trust since 2009 overseeing the training and welfare of 43 foundation trainees.

 Martine Baker, Senior Nurse, Pre-Operative Assessment

Martine Baker trained as a nurse at Salisbury General Infirmary, completing her training in 1986. She worked as an Enrolled Nurse on the wards, Intensive care, and Theatres Recovery.  In 1991 she completed her Diploma/ Conversion course and has worked in a number of Surgical Wards at Salisbury District Hospital as Ward Sister. 

In 2003 Martine became involved in Project and service improvement work within the Surgical Directorate, leading the developing of a new role "The Surgical Navigator". In 2007 she opened and developed the Surgical Admission Lounge. Following this she was given the challenge of setting up a centralised, Nurse lead Pre Operative Assessment Unit, where has been working since 2008
